I was the assistant manager for a pizza place in Tennessee and we had a special on Wednesdays for medium 1 topping pizzas for 3.99. It was a good deal and we did a lot of business on Wednesday nights. Because this special had been going on for so long, we had a lot of regular customers. Some, I remember because they were exceptionally nice. Others, because they had specific requests. One of them I remember because he was a pain in the ass.
Bert was always some sort of impaired when he would call, he'd ask all kinds of stupid questions before ordering exactly the same thing he got every Wednesday night. A lot of times, he wouldn't pick it up until it had been sitting for nearly an hour and would complain to try to get us to give him free food. Words can't describe how aggravating this guy was.
He'd leer at the girl that answered the phones (she was 19 but could have easily passed for 15 or so) when he came in and ask her weird questions and make comments about how he was going to 'party' that night and told her she should come. She had explained, several times, that she had a boyfriend and was happy in her relationship and to, essentially, fuck off.
He tried to touch her across the counter one night.
I'm very protective of my coworkers so I told Bert that, under no circumstances, should his hands ever pass the back end of my counter and that if he continued to try to touch her and make weird comments, I would invoke my right to refuse service and have him removed from the building. It was unusual because I'm very much not a confrontational person. This girl was like a little sister to me and I wasn't about to have some creepy jackass try to put his hands on her while she was working with me.
We didn't think anything of it afterward because he never hung around after we closed or made any threatening comments while he was walking out or anything like that. We just figured he was high/drunk and an idiot.
Bert stopped ordering after that for a few weeks, which was unusual. This guy literally ordered every single Wednesday for at least the 5 months that I had been working there by this point. I figured maybe he was pissed off that I had intruded on his lame attempts to pick up my coworker.
Turns out he was in prison for kidnapping and raping an 11 year old girl.
